Travelling Companions

  • Apr. 22nd, 2009 at 11:06 AM

Well i know i got back on monday but i haven't really thought about posting my trip upto Brisbane until now so here we go!

well after a night of no sleep and too much last minute wee hours of the morning packing i got my 07:00 flight to Brisbane... YAY!!!! arriving there at a little after 9 i hopped off the plane and wondered wtf to do as everyone i know was working so i sent out a few sms' including one to my most gracious host [info]kristy_w who offered to pick me up after work and show me where i would be staying (and thank you again for letting me crash on the couch). As she didn't finish until about 16:00 i decided i would learn the lay of the land so i went to a visitors centre and grabbed a map which although i kept pulling it out fairly regularly and it made me look like the tourist i was, and started to wander around the city. i was loving it all as i hadn't been to Qld for 15 years now. as i wandered around the city i realised that i prefered it to melbourne!!! firstly it's easier to navigate around as you just need to work out if you're on top of a king or queen and that will tell you which way you can go, and also all the little outdoor bars/restaraunts that littered queen st mall. I was also envious of Brisvegas as they had a place that i love but has disappeared from Melbourne... WAGAMAMA!!! and also the Citycat. While i was in the city i also ended up doing my espionage which always seems to happen regardless of where i am, i was walking past and saw the local GW store and my inner nerd came out so i went in to see how good the store was and the display stuff was. I should really stop doing that as i'm always disapointed as i compare it to Chadstone's store... oh well.

After my trundle through the cbd itself i went down to South Bank where i was to meet [info]kristy_w it was damned beautiful along there... from the flowers to the walkway archatecture to the birds and finally the other wildlife ;). Honestly though i did love it there.. it was one of my favorite places there. after i while i head to where i was to meet my host and as i was a little early i layed down on the grass behind the ferris wheel where i drifted off into a nice nap only to wake with an annoying litle shit of a child standing over me saying "Daddy, this man has green hair". Not long after that my lift arrived and we headed back to her place where i got settled in and then we went out for a lovely italian dinner. Then we just ended up on the couch for the night with movies and beer (early night for all).

Come day 2 i woke up at around 11 and was feeling good. first thing i did was catch up with [info]4dyce for my breakfast/his lunch which we went and had in a food court in Queen St Mall... good curry. we had a catch up and organised to see Felafel the following night. After breakfast i went and jumped on the Citycat and went over to New Farm. as soon as i get off i'm greeted by a really nice park. I then walked through New Farm and upto The Valley where i had a couple of drinks before heading to Bulimba via the Citycat again to meet up with [info]kristy_w after her diving lesson to go watch her go play indoor soccer. Congrats to her for the goal she scored as well!!! =) after soccer we headed back to her place from some beer, wine and movies.

Saturday comes around and i get up for a 14:00 breakfast with [info]crowroadaw which was a delicious vegan bruschetta followed by heading back to his place where i was introduced to another wrestling brand called Ring of Honour which i thoroughly enjoyed =).  Thanks man. After leaving [info]crowroadaw 's house at 16:15 i had to rush back to [info]kristy_w 's place to get changed and get ready to meet [info]4dyce for dinner followed by "He Died with a Felafel in his Hand". the dinner was nice but because both Peter and myself were running about 30 mins behind the appointed meeting time so we had to rush the food... mmm spring rolls and pasta =D. Felafel was fucking fantastic though!!! Thanks to [info]girlclumsy  for putting it on and [info]pantmonger  you were awesome! along with the rest of the cast.  After the play had a couple more drinks and chatted to [info]girlclumsy  and [info]pantmonger then went home carrying all the merchandice that i didn't have already (thanks to [info]bunnitos  from bringing me some back after her trip). Needed to be up early so didn't really want to have a massive one.

Ahh Sunday... the 7:30 wake up so that we could go do what is still haunting me now.  After leaving the house with [info]kristy_w  and [info]sendai we went to pick up another one of [info]kristy_w 's mates Paul not sure if he's on LJ) and we all went mountain climbing together. Although i was told we were to go mountain climbing firstly i wasn't told how hard it was going to be but more importantly that we weren't going without any rope... ahh crap!!! So yes it was almost "brown trousers time" as i don't really have a fear of heights but i do have a fear of things falling out from under me and then me dropping... regardless of how high it is. although i was scared going up when i got upto the top it was the most awesome of views, i got to see a whole other side of Brisbane. As we made out way down one of my boots decided it couldn't keep it together to the sole started to come off. by the time i got down to the bottom it was holing on by only the heel so i just took it all the way off at that stage as it would be harder to walk with it still attached (luckily there was still a layer of rubber between the path and my foot at that stage as it was then decided to walk around the base of the mountain, during which i tried to just over a puddle but instinctivly landed on my right foot which had no grip due to lack of sole and so i had one of my most spectactular falls ever (i think i rolled to or 3 times before bouncing back up).  After we did the track we all went for a drink and some chips and decided that we all needed a sunday session so we all went back and got ready for some drinks and pool... twas fun.

Monday was a day where i did nothing but get up and head to the airport to go home. so a real quiet one.

Thanks to all who caught up with me and a special thanks to [info]kristy_w for letting me crash.

One man band

down
i just found out this afternoon that tomorrow will be my last day at my current employ as it appears that i am taking too long with my allocated task.  i don't know how i wasn't able to work as fast as 3 guys doing the same task... i guess i should try to be like that next time.

at 3pm today i was informed that as my current speed of work wasn't as quick as 3 guys doing the job but in a half assed attempt that my services are no longer required after tomorrow COB.  of course as i said the previous 3 guys did the job half assed and didn't update the databases for the archiving they were doing.  when they asked me they asked me to fix up the mess left by the previously allocated resources as well as organise new archive from the previous 4 years (which is how long ago it was that they fuckup occured).  on top of being asked to sort out the old archives and put together the new ones, with data entry, i was also asked to document the whole process.

and as i was unaware until today this all had to be done in the same time that the previous group just threw files in boxes and randomly thew then into the archive storage building.

well back to the job hunt... =S

where's the snow?

well just got back from  the snow patrol concert that i went to see with [info]bunnitos .

the music itself was awesome... as was the Palais Theatre in St Kilda... i love that building!!

there were only 2 issues i had with the night... first one was as it was allocated people just got up where there seats were... this would be fine were they dancing but all they did was stand there with their arms at their sides and sing... lame? this was sorted in [info]bunnitos fashion with the relocating from the stalls with everyone in our way upto the balcony where we ended closer to the stage with a much better view. but when we got up to dance in out new seats we were told by the ushers that dancing in thos seats was Verboden and so we got moved back a couple of rows to where we could dance... please explain the logic there.

the second issue was temperature in the place... man was it cooking there... no aircon and no ventilation... and all those bodies so close together.

otherwise it was a good night with drinking, good music and good company  =)

well soonish it shall be 48 hours with only 4 hours sleep.  how do i do this you ask? trying to work it out myself sine i've only had 2 energy drinks, no coffee and a fuck load of booze.

i think what's keeping me going is my passion.  for the hobby i'm doing atm that is required in about 5 hours... and also my passion for other things.

with regards to the hobby that i'm working on atm i'm basically trying to put together every warhammer space marine tank that i own... along with a fuck load of other models.  i'm running a massive game of Warhammer 40k using the Apocalypse rules and i need to bring something descent to show.  why i did this to myself i don't know. i usually only get myself into these situations if i have a tourny coming up... ahh fuck... nothing i can do about it now except get a move on.

Revelations 101

  • Jan. 12th, 2009 at 4:03 AM

well as i appear to have found out i concentrate better on my painting during the weeeeeeeee hours of the morning when sleep is not an option. insomnia kicked in again and so for the past 3 hours i've just been doing solid painting and have accomplished a descent amount of painting done (not my best effort but not bad). Had peacemaker going in the background the whole time... only 5 episodes left to go.

i'm shocked that i haven't been able sleep tonight as i went mostly hard at the gym today after not going for a few months.

i should try and head to bed now... just had my first yawn of the night.

Once again i can't turn my brain off and goto sleep... so what do i do... i turn to the internet... this should really show our dependence on such technologies.  why is it that it is this refuge i choose to goto above almost all else? (the first place i wanted to go i wouldn't be able to).

everytime i try and get to sleep tonight i roll over on my sore fet and wake up again... bah!!!

as you can see i don't really have much to write... just passing the time while i try to get tired.

if you have any ideas on what to write during nights like these please let me know...

hope everyone has a good sleep!!!

the cycle

it's so weird the way that the fates work.  although they have been messing with me so so much with regards to most of my life over the past couple of months through which most of it has brought me back down they have also been good to me lately.  they've allowed me to see sides of people, including myself that i didn't know and it's mostly been good. they have allowed me to make new friends, grow closer to old ones and learn to repress anger and/or disappointment in the face of others.

it's been a learning curve for me of which i am very much so grateful.  i thank them very much so for this.  even if it's brought me to the edge with some thoughts though.  i wonder if this cycle is a never ending one as it seems to be or if it does have a finale. i wish Ares would tell me... oh well... we'll see

hmmm
